Below I have the steps that we have used to sell our books, literally, selling hundreds of thousands of copies, but ALSO used with clients, helping them crush it. We are peeling back the curtain and giving YOU access to the steps as well as the tools that we have used.

There are four book launch phases. We will outline each of the steps below and then give you strategies to create all of your marketing assets. We have seen clients create their own launch plan over a weekend. Cause, when you combine the proven Book Launch Playbook strategies with the content-generation power of Pagewheel?

Before we begin… what if you already published your book and your launch was a flop??
Just pretend that was last month!! It was your “practice launch”. You can have a “relaunch” any time that you want. Pick a day 3 weeks in the future, declare that to be your new launch day… and go for it!

Let’s break your book promotion plan down phase-by-phase:
PHASE 1: Your Book’s Pre-Launch
Build up your book’s hype!!
Start NOW. Way before pre-orders open. Build up your email list early (and fast!). Collect people who will be your perfect buyers.
How?? Set up a simple opt-in page with a compelling lead magnet (think: bonus chapter, quiz result, character dossier, reading journal, behind-the-scenes commentary — whatever fits your book and brand).
Note: We have over 600 pre-made bonuses just like the ones below and you are welcome to copy, edit them to match your book! Use these as your list-building “magnets”. You can find them inside Pagewheel.

Then… stick that “lead magnet” onto a landing page. This teases, the free resource, and helps position YOU as the expert that they have been waiting for their whole lives! Your landing page will also have a form on it that allows you to capture emails. This becomes your book’s waitlist!!
Last task, turn on promotion. Begin posting content that grabs attention and builds your authority. You will want to tell people about your free resource and tease book milestones. Bring your audience along for the journey.

PHASE 2: Warm-up Month Before Launch
Turn your inner circle into your “Book Launch Team”
If you did your job in the pre-launch phase, you collected people onto an email list. You don’t need a HUGE list to make a HUGE impact in the world. Even a list of 100-200 people is enough to fuel this next stage…
Your list becomes your launch team!
At this stage, you want to continue growing your list and continue teasing your upcoming book. But you also want to add mini-offers. These help you position yourself as a leader in your field. Create one or more of the following book sales funnels.

- Create a Book Preorder Bonus Funnel (e.g., T-shirts, extra chapters, workshops).
- Create a VIP Book Club Funnel (Build a community full of your readers!)
- Run a 5-Day Challenge Funnel that coincides with your book topic.
- Tease your book in a Book Quiz funnel or a survey
- Invite your list to come see you with a Book Signing Event Funnel
Note: You don’t need ALL of the book funnels listed above to be successful! A funnel is a website that is designed to attract your perfect people and give you a way to make an ongoing impact on them. At minimum, pick 2 of the sales funnels listed above to use in your Pre-Launch. If you have resources, team, and/or a large list, you will want to have 3 or more of the above “Book funnels”. We have all of the funnels you need ready for you to use to sell more of your books, inside of Pagewheel! You can make all 5 this weekend, and we will even hop on a zoom and help you!
Remember, the more ways you promote your book, the more you show up, the more your followers show up for you – and become book buyers! Also know the more work you do during the presale time, the less sales you will need on launch day.
PHASE 3: Pre-Order One-Week Before Blitz
Hustle for the SALES!!
Pre-Order Promotions of your book typically begin the week before your book goes on sale. Your goal, and only goal this week, is to drive preorders like your launch depends on it, cause it does!
The presale numbers are “counted” as purchases on Day 1’s sales – this gives you a natural “spike” that tells the book sellers that your book is ah-mazing and it’s time for them to properly feature it on their marketplace! We suggest to our clients to have 100 presales if they want to get “Best Seller in a category of Amazon” and if they want to be on a competitive category, they will want more than 1,000 sales on launch day. If clients want to get on any of the national book lists, they may want more than 15,000 purchases.
Why do you want to wait until the final 7 days to REALLY push selling your book? Don’t you want sales as far in advance as possible?? Yes, but often people forget that they ordered a book if it is longer than a week (so they are less excited to see it). They also might get irritated, in this age of “2-day shipping,” if a book takes more than a week to arrive at them. We have found that the week of launch and the week after are the two most important weeks!!
These numbers sound BIG, and they are, but when you have your promotional assets created for you, in advance, launching your book becomes MUCH easier! That is why we created Pagewheel for you. It is the resource we wish we had when we were launching our book!
This week’s promotional non-negotiables:
- You will want to post 2-3 times a day about your book on every platform this week.
- You will want to email your list DAILY! Seriously!
- You will want to TALK to your audience daily – either in prefilmed reels, or TikToks, shorts, etc. or in Lives.
- You will want to have bonuses that are only available this week. Give them a reason to buy now, and not wait.

All of that sounds like a lot… BUT… we’ve done this just a few times – ahem. PHASE 3: Launch Week!

Pick one or more of the following marketing ideas to add to your launch:
- Offer escalating bonuses: Buy 1, get ___. Buy 2, get ___. Buy 3, get ___.
Note: Do not offer more than 3 books, as that negatively impacts your ability to get onto best-seller book lists. - Add scarcity with a bonus if they purchase, e.g. they get the audiobook version for a discounted rate, “This week only”.
- Build in a referral system (e.g., a bonus if they invite friends to read with them).
- Launch Dream 100 boxes — send special boxes to influencers, press, and podcast hosts. Tell them your book is live.
- If you are hosting a challenge or a workshop, THIS is the week for it!! Give the replays to folks who show their book purchase receipt publicly in a group or social post!
- Ask buyers to give reviews. You can’t incentivize the reviews directly but you can create a culture of giving credit and shouting out.
- Host 3+ Facebook Lives or podcast interviews per day if possible.
- Organize a Unicorn Thunderclap — 30+ influencers post at the same time.
- Host a live countdown or unveiling of the book now “for sale” launch party (even on Zoom).
- Create special “frame” social graphics for fans (“I’m on Team [Your Book]!”)
